Tao Kae Noi: Thailand's Most Popular Snack

The trailer got me curious enough to try out Thailand's most popular snack food, Tao Kae Noi. When I chanced upon this at the grocery, I grabbed two bags. It's basically crispy seaweed tempura. Calorie-wise it's actually quite low, free of preservatives and additives. It is said to be always out of stock in 7-Elevens, and it actually even has its own brand store. Asian boyband "Beast" endorses the product, to appeal to its vast young buying market!

The verdict: I love it in all it's seaweed tempura goodness! But did you know there's an even more interesting story behind it?

Top Ittipat is only 26 years old and a billionaire because of this tasty snack. "The Billionaire" tells of his story of how as a 16 year old, he was an online game addict; at 17 he dropped out to sell chestnuts; at 18 his family went bankrupt with an immense 40million Baht debt and by 19 years old, he created the seaweed snack that earns 800 million Baht per year with 2,000 staff.

What's your favorite flavour?
